There are so many exciting options for potential buyers of small cars these days. Hatchbacks are small cars ideal for city drives and it is one of the most extensive segments in the Indian car industry. The majority of first time car buyers prefer to buy hatchbacks within Rs 3 to 5 lakhs. These cars offer good mileage, space and decent comfort and are easyto handle and park too. To meet the rising demand more and more auto makers are coming up with cheaper as well as enhanced compact cars year after year. This has resulted in a wide choice of good cars in the budgeted segment as well.
Maruti Suzuki Celerio undeniably comes first in the race when it comes to cheap and economical hatchbacks. The Celerio uses an automated manual which is basically a manual gearbox with an automated clutch action.
Maruti Celerio is based on the Suzuki A-Wind concept, the front of the Celerio looks like the Toyota Liva. The side profile is similar to the A-Star, while the rear is much like the Alto 800. The design is very bland. The Celerio has a feather light build with a kerb weight of only 810 kg.
Under the hood
The Celerio has a 998 cc three-cylinder K-Next engine that generates 68 PS of power and a torque of 90 Nm. The Celerio has an option to manually shift gears. There is also no Park mode and one has to keep the car in N or neutral when parked. Celerio has a mileage figure of 15.5 kmpl in the city and 21.6 kmpl on the highway. The Celerio takes 17.1 seconds to accelerate from 0-100 kmph and has a light steering and good visibility, making it easier to manage on city roads. The Celerio has a noisy cabin as the AMT can get a bit jerky and up shifts are very slow.
Maruti Celerio is 3.6 metres long, 1.6 metres wide and 1.5 metres tall with a wheelbase of 2.4 metres. The car has decent legroom, excellent headroom and a 235 liter boot space. Maruti offers the Celerio diesel in 6 colours including a red and yellow.
Even this Celerio has a roomy and spacious interior cabin, but the top-notch fittings and features seen in most of its rival cars are missing here. Equipment like tachometer, tilt steering, airbags, ABS, remote locking, rear wiper, washer or even a basic CD player are missing in the middle variant. Only the higher variants have most of the features but they are too expensive.
The Celerio has two automatic models the LXI AT and the VXI AT priced at Rupees 4.14 and 4.43 lakhs, respectively. Celerio is one of the cheapest automatic cars in India.
